For better protection in the event of electric car fires, German insurers believe that container ships and ferries should be equipped with other extinguishing systems. According to the GDV, electric vehicles do not burn more often, but they do so differently than conventional vehicles. The extinguishing technique used today to smother the fire with CO2 gas does not work with a lithium-ion battery.
